What Is Authenticity?
To be authentic, we must cultivate the courage to be imperfect – and vulnerable. We have to believe that we are fundamentally worthy of love and acceptance, just as we are – Brené Brown.
I don’t think I could do a much better job explaining what authenticity means than Brené Brown.
But ultimately it means, that you permit yourself and find the courage to show up as you are – despite your imperfections, nerves, doubt and directly speak from your heart and show other people your vulnerable side.
It is ultimately about staying true to yourself, without shapeshifting into what you think other people expect from you or change yourself to please anyone.
You DECIDE that being YOU is good enough!
And it is the most beautiful gift you have to show other people who you truly are, where you stand, what your beliefs are. It is your power!
So don’t let anyone take away your power, because only an authentic person can walk with grace, not sink to the levels of other people and truly operate from a place in your heart, where people understand that you are a person of integrity, not out to scam anyone, you are not false and your standards and morals are never doubted – and most importantly: Impossible to be copied!
So why would you throw away your biggest superpower in your business?
By being you, there is no competition, because no one can be you!
How Not Being Yourself Can Affect Your Business
When I first started my business, I was constantly looking towards what others in my industry (primarily coaches) were doing in their businesses because I wanted to learn from them and aspired to reach their levels.
But do you want to know where that got me?
It got me only as far, as having spent thousands and thousands of dollars on coaching, without truly getting the results I was looking for.
(Tell me, if this sounds like a boat you’ve been in!)
It was devastating, miserable and the most confused I have ever been in my life and my business.
It is also the reason why I had to switch niche time and time again, because I ultimately didn’t listen to my heart and how I wanted my business to be.
There was no way in hell, that even the thought of MY BRAND being an extension of who I WAS ever came across my mind.
If only I had known this sooner, it would have saved me a lot of time, a lot of money and it would certainly have caused me a lot of pain as well.
If you can’t stand behind what you are creating, what you are offering and don’t think to yourself “Omg, I wish I had gone through such a program when I was starting my business” and you don’t truly BELIEVE in your offer or your products.. then how can you expect anyone else to?
How can you create anything, if it doesn’t come from you, your heart and is a sacred part of you?
A part of you that you give to the world as a gift and as an invitation to be in the presence that embraces ALL of you?
I very quickly saw that I was doing what everyone told me I should do, instead of finding a coach who could lead me to my own heart and true authentic self and let the answers find ME, not the other way around like a really bad game of scavenger hunt.
So put yourself in your dream clients shoes and be your client first!
What would you personally gain from the products or offerings you are providing, if you were in your client’s shoes?
Would it give them the solution they are looking for?
Are you offering what you are offering for the right reasons, or is reading this blogpost yet another game of a scavenger hunt?
If it isn’t and you are truly wanting to find your authentic self and incorporate that into your business, then read along.
Why We Think We Can’t Be Ourselves At Work or In Business
You don’t have to strip away parts of yourself in order to be accepted as the big juicy apple you truly are!
There is this idea out there, that if you bring your real self to work or show your true colours in your business, you are taking a massive risk.
It is like we subconsciously think, that by showing who you truly are you will be punished in one way or form and the fear of this can both be very legit and real!
(I mean, people have gotten fired for both racial, gender and sexual orientations – I am 100% not diminishing those of you who’s been treated like that and I’m so sorry for the pain it caused you)
But sometimes, this idea of not being accepted as who we are can also rob us of great opportunities – such as freedom.
How can anyone be free, if they don’t permit themselves to be who they truly are?
I see this very much in the same correlation in your business.
How will you achieve the freedom to be with your family, reach financial freedom and realize your dreams, if you constantly have to pretend to be someone you are not?
In my experience, it never leads to anywhere good.
It will only lead down the roads of burnout, anxiety, self-doubt and so many more roads.
And it ain’t pretty!
(I’ve been down all these roads, and you know that I only talk from experience and share what I know, so please don’t make the same mistakes I made)
Mindset-Shifts For Being Your Authentic Self
This brings me to talk to you about mindset.
Because, girl.. we have got some work to do!
And I am saying we because, despite any differences we have or where you come from or who you are, we are not that different you and I.
You are like me, you have huge dreams, a big but soft heart and you have certain things standing in the way of reaching your dreams.
If you have read any of my other posts, you’ll soon realize that I am huge on mindset and healing and how I truly believe that starting your own business is a spiritual awakening and a journey where you get to come home to yourself, so YOU can guide the way for others with your personal stories and gifts you have to offer the world.
But I want to tell you, that there IS a way for you to be yourself in your business and break out of the stagnant energy you’ve been in for way too long.
And that road is called healing, reprogramming your subconscious mind, healing your ancestral or family trauma and come back to yourself.
Because only by doing the inner work, will you achieve the freedom you want in your business.
So how is that done exactly?
How To Be Your Authentic Self In Your Business
As said earlier, you need to know who you are and if you can genuinely stand behind your offers and what you seek to create in the world.
If you do that, being your authentic self becomes easy.
But I want to give you some tips and tricks you can walk out of here with and use straight away to BE authentic and let go of competition.
What are your mission and your why?
You can’t create an authentic business that’s an extension of who you are if you have no idea why you want to start a business in the first place or what you seek to create or change in the world.
Truly be authentic and come clean about, what your mission is, where you see things going, what difference and what good your business will do in the world.
So start by getting clear on these questions:
- What are you good at?
- What impact do you wish to create in the world?
- What problem(s) do you wish to solve?
- Who / what is important to you?
This sounds obvious.
But this is where most people get it wrong – even big and established companies.
But nothing is more inauthentic than not owning up to the mistakes you make, what it took you to get to where you are now (only sharing the highlight real), “forgetting” to mention all the failures you had before being “an overnight success”, their supposedly big “cash” months but having no real money in the bank.
And not to mention.. actually scamming people into buying things that aren’t truly right for them and where they’re currently at and I could go on and on..
Do you see where I am going with this?
So share it all, the hows and lows, the good and bad, the wins and setbacks and you will find that you’re off to a much better start in your business, while not having to hide any aspects of yourself and your brand.
Be consistent in your business
Nothing is more confusing to people than inconsistency.
It doesn’t come across as authentic, but it also doesn’t mean that you have to show up every single day of your life forever and ever.
That’s the beauty.
YOU get to set the standard for what it means for you to be present and show up in your business.
So if that means you show up 4 times a week and that is what you can handle, then that is what you’ll do! (and stay consistent with it)
But just be aware, that if you show up suddenly for 7 days in a row, and then are gone for a month..
How do you think that would look?
What would you personally think of that, if you were on the other side on the receiving end?
So take that into account and just do the best you can!
No one, not even established businesses have it all perfect and there’s room for real life and the parts of being human, which your soulmate people will understand.
Care about your audience
You can kinda see this as an extension of the previous section.
But let me ask you, how likely are you to buy from a brand that doesn’t give a crap about their products and what it’ll do for you?
I’m guessing you wouldn’t be very appealed to buy from them knowing that.
So make sure that YOU are the one who cares about your soulmate people and wants them to feel/look/do good and believe in them more than they believe in themselves!
Even better, spend some time truly getting to know them!
The more you care about, the more they will care about you.
It is a win-win situation and a truly authentic way to run your business, to care about the people.
Because isn’t that ultimately who you’re doing it for?
For the souls who you know, YOU can help out of the situations or problems you’ve once been in yourself and want to give them your solution, so you can truly make a difference in their lives, confidence, health or whatever your offering is?
Keep your word in your business
It’s not enough to only CARE about your soulmate people.
You need to keep your word as well as to what your solution can bring them.
It is not your job to do the transformation for them.
But it IS your job to provide the best solution, support, guidance, strategy and questions to help them get to where they want to go, so THEY have the tools, mindset and strategies to do the work and succeed with it!
So always keep your word in what you’re promising them, give them all the tools and support you can provide them with, and see the magic that happens!
I hope this guide was helpful to you, so you can truly see how being your authentic self and bringing that into your business can do wonders!
The secret is, that once you are true to yourself, you’re not hung up any longer on any numbers.
Because YOU know that you are good enough and the value you provide your soulmate people is good enough because it comes from YOU.
If you feel called to share any fears you have around been your authentic self or you simply need help to find the answers within you..

I’d love nothing more than to help you to share your true authentic self and help you start and grow your business, so we can go out there and make an incredible impact in this world together!
If you are not sure exactly sure who it is you are as you are starting your business. Let me tell you, you are not alone. Since I started my business, I have grown exponentially and it’s been a deep journey within myself and a spiritual awakening almost home to my true self. And that is the key to moving you forward: Being YOU, not your competition.
