When I first heard this or anything related to mindset-work, I honestly didn’t understand the meaning or the importance behind this. But after having gone through all of my training in NLP, Hypnotherapy, EFT, Dream Coaching + Life & Success coaching, one thing stands very clear to me;
That there is absolutely no way around manifesting anything into your life if you don’t have the right mindset. I’m not saying this, to be another “cliché” out there.
In fact, all the other life coaches out there, are telling you and sharing this with the world for a very good reason. The reason being, that without the proper mindset (meaning; having worked on your limiting beliefs, your habits, your behaviour and emotions) you won’t get to achieve or manifest your goals and biggest desires in life.
So if you take anything from these words I’m writing, then let it be that.
Knowing how important mindset work is and that it should be the top priority in your life before you do anything else before you can dive into the amazing things manifestation can help you with.
How do you overcome your limiting beliefs to manifest your dreams?
Step one: You need to identify what your specific limiting beliefs are.
Once you know them, you can work on them one by one as part of a daily routine. (I’m telling you.. this work kinda goes on forever)
I know… I’m sorry for having ruined the party here if you thought it would take no-time.
However, don’t get discouraged just yet! Because it will literally (LITERALLY! you hear me..?) be the best thing you’ll ever do for yourself and you can come to a point where you really enjoy it too.
So.. now that you know, that the secret-ingredient to overcoming your limiting beliefs is to identify them first, it’s probably wise first to explain to you exactly what these limiting beliefs are, what they do, why they are there, and how they are vacationing in the summer… you know, the essential stuff.
What are limiting beliefs?
Limiting beliefs can be thoughts and opinions that you’ve grown up with to believe to be the truth.
Most of the time, we aren’t even aware that they are there, because they’ve run on auto-pilot since we created them in our heads.
In reality, limiting beliefs are merely assumptions of your own reality of what you believe to be true.
They can have a very negative impact on our lives because they can easily hold us back, make us question our intuitions and mostly, they make us doubt our own greatness and our own potential for what life we can create for ourselves.
As said, these limiting beliefs can stem all the way back to when you grew up and they were created from either your own life experiences or from the people around you that you looked up to, such as parents, teachers, media and the society.
One example of limiting beliefs could be that you believe you never have enough money.
The liming belief about not having enough money could have been created from the mere fact that someone in your family always kept on cursing on the rich people, or you grew up in a place where it was hard to make ends meet.
Whatever the cause of it, you might sit today as an adult today not feeling like you could ever make the amount of money you want for yourself because you’re scared of what that family member would think of you once you’ve made that amount of money.
So you end up holding yourself back from even going after it or if you were brought up in an environment where money was always a struggle, you now have the belief that you will always struggle with money or that money is generally hard to come by.
So do you now see, how impactful our beliefs are for our own current reality?
They only serve as huge stop-sign for our abundance and what we can manifest in our lives because the subconscious mind takes everything you believe so literal, that if you believe money is hard to come by, then that’s exactly what it will work on proving it is.
What you need to do to overcome your limiting beliefs to manifest your desires
Firstly, you need to figure out what it is that you want or what you desire more of in your life, here I mean; Your goals or the outcomes that you want for yourself and your life, so you afterwards can look at your limiting beliefs and get a clearer picture of where you are self-sabotaging.
Here’s a few question to guide you in that direction:
– What do I want?
– What goals do I have?
– Who do I need to be to achieve my goals?
– What would my goals allow me to do?
You really need to be fired up about your goals to achieve your desires, and one way to determine if you really want what you think you want is by going through the above questions.
If you’re not motivated, you’ll only find excuses not to reach your goals.
So now that you’ve identified your goals and desires, we can move on to the part to work on your limiting beliefs, where the real magic will happen.
How to identify your limiting beliefs
One thing, I quickly want to make clear before you scroll further, is that I want you to really put attention to what limiting beliefs are serving you, and what limiting beliefs are hindering you.
The easiest way to determine what kind of belief or thought you’re dealing with, is by asking yourself “Will this thought/belief help me move towards my goal?” If it doesn’t, then this is a clear sign that you’ve identified a limiting belief or thought and that you should work on it.
By having your clear goal in mind right now, what is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about that goal? Maybe you feel it will be hard? That you can’t do it? You’re not sure what other people will think of you for going after that dream? Or maybe you’ve identified how you behave, what you say, or what you worry about when thinking about that goal.
Whatever happens for you or what comes to mind, ask yourself the above question and listen to what comes up and write it down.
In general the heavier it feels for you, the deeper the limiting beliefs you have, and that’s the more reason you need to work on it.
Once you’ve come this far, you can go the next step further, by asking yourself why you are feeling or thinking this way.
How to overcome your limiting beliefs
1. Challenge your limiting beliefs
The best thing you can do first to change your thoughts is to question them. Put doubt on them. Ask yourself “Is this thought really true?” (to begin with, most of your limiting beliefs likely isn’t)
So every time you have a thought about anything you experience throughout the day (I recommend taking an entire day to do this, carrying around a journal or write your thoughts in your notes on your phone) immediately ask yourself that question.
Remember, in the end, whatever comes up for you, your beliefs and thoughts are there because they are simply trying to protect you.
But sometimes, these safe-zone thoughts doesn’t allow us to grow into the potential we can be, and that’s why it’s so important to challenge them, so we can grow and start doing the things we’ve always wanted to do.
2. Replace the limiting beliefs
The next step in the process might be obvious. But after having gone through that entire day of writing down every single limiting belief or thought you have, here comes the fun part:
Look at those notes you wrote down, and take another piece of paper, but on this one.. you are going to write all the possible contradictions you possibly can come up with, so you in the end have two pieces of paper; One with all your limiting beliefs written on, and one with all the opposite beliefs or affirmations about those limiting beliefs.
Once you have these two pieces of paper, you can now always go back to your list with all the positive beliefs you wrote down and look back at them, every time you have one of your limiting beliefs sneaking back in.
Replace it immediately in your head with the positive one and continue to do so for as long as it requires for you to believe you really are that amazing, talented, beautiful, motivated go-getter magnificent human being you truly are!
3. Play the “What If”-game.
The last tip I’m going to share with you today is that I completely understand how trivial and too-easy this exercise can be to get rid of your limiting beliefs.
So, whenever I’ve had a limiting belief, that was so strongly rooted in me that it was hard to believe that I could actually overcome it, I’ve played the “what would happen”-game.
You simply ask yourself (and write down the answers) to the following questions:
- What would happen if I get it? (your goal)
- What would happen if I don’t get it?
These simple questions have so much impact, because you will start to imagine yourself actually having what you want, and afterwards imagine what will happen if you don’t get your desires/goals.
It could look something like this:
“If I started my own business, I would be able to make more money than I do at my regular job, I would impact a lot of people, I would get over my limiting beliefs about money, I would meet a lot of like-minded people, I would be able to more things for myself, have more time to do what I love doing or what’s important to me” etc.
Whereas the other scenario of what would happen it you don’t get it would look something like this:
“I would still be in this job 1 year, 5 years, 10 years or more from now. I would keep exchanging my life and my time for money, I wouldn’t feel like I made much of a difference in the world, I wouldn’t have the time I so deeply want to be with my family” etc.
Do you see how different these two scenarios are, solely from asking yourself what the different outcomes would be of you not changing your limiting beliefs to truly go after your dreams?
Happy manifesting lovies!
One thing in manifestation I think you’ve already heard by now, is that in order to manifest anything, especially your dreams, you need to overcome your limiting beliefs.
